About Us
The software behind WebGuild was actually developed to save the sanity of our Technical Director, Nigel Bent, - some may say it failed to do this!
When Nigel's daughter was born and his wife returned to work, he took a sabatical from work to become a house husband. Whilst this is a worthwhile and fulfilling role, he needed something else to occupy his mind.
As he has a background in computer programming, he decided to develop an easy to use system which would enable ordinary, non-technical people to build and maintain their own websites.

Nigel has previously worked for Ferranti Computer Systems, Westinghouse Systems and BT plc where he gained experience in systems analysis, programming and user interface design. He has had formal training in sales, contract and project management, computer-programming (real-time and batch) and general commercial and business skills.
Together with his friend and future colleague, Calum Kerr, they worked hard to launch WebGuild Media. As a result of the popularity and success of WebGuild they became a limited company in May 2004. As the business continued to grow, they could no longer work from their home offices so the next step was to move to premises in Gatley, Cheshire. As the business is continuing to grow, in 2008 Nigel's wife Angela made the decision to leave a well known telecommunications company to join Nigel and Calum as a director. Angela's background is in a commercial and sales environment. She also has experience in graphic design, document production and project management.
After 7 years, Calum began to miss his career as an author and creative writing teacher, so he decided to leave WebGuild Media, but is still employed by us as a freelance designer as and when needed.
We are also lucky to have an experienced Finance Manager, Jo Davids working with us. Jo has previously worked in various finance and accountancy roles in education, charitable organisations and an accountants. She also has experience in troubleshooting and project management roles - basically making sure things are done on time.
We also have 2 Non-Executive directors, Michael Schmidt and Mike Somers. Michael Schmidt is the Managing Editor of Carcanet Press and Professor of Poetry at Glasgow University. He has many years experience of running a successful publishing business. Mike Somers is a Tax Inspector for HMRC. He has experience of accountancy and compliance with tax regulations.
So as you can see we are a varied bunch of people.
Our staff is experienced in HTML, Perl, CGI, JavaScript and CSS, all of which are required for the production of websites. They also have experience in the graphical design and the writing skills required for production of effective website content.
We are proud to be able to supply easy-to-use website creation software and hosting packages to individuals, publishers and a range of small to medium businesses.
We pride ourselves on our realistic approach to business and history of successful projects and satisfied customers. These principles form the core of our business and our goal in life is to provide people with a user friendly and affordable system. But most of all we want people to enjoy and benefit from using one of our website solutions.
